Hi! As you probably already know by now, my name is Danica (pronounced DUH-KNEE-CA) and it’s great to e-meet you! I am a 500-hour registered yoga instructor, with training in multiple styles of yoga; including vinyasa, yin, restorative, children’s, and pre/post-natal yoga, and I am studying to become a NASM personal trainer. I am currently located in Birmingham, Alabama, but am originally from West Virginia (via Denver, Colorado and Pittsburgh, PA). I found my way to my mat after moving across the country from West Virginia to Denver, Colorado, in 2013 and my life hasn’t been the same since.
I had been practicing for a couple years and one day I went to a class at The River Yoga in Denver, and they announced they had a couple of spots left in their teacher training that was starting that night. I asked the ladies at the studio a couple of questions about training and then went to grab lunch and called my mom to see what she thought. I had been thinking of taking a training, but had not found one that felt quite ‘right’. I also had recently been laid off from my job and was really searching to find my purpose in life. Well, long story short, I received an email from the manager of the studio mentioning I was asking about the training and that I could come that night without any commitment and see what I thought. Well, I showed up for training that night (not realizing that it legit the first night of training and I was there for 3 hours – my now husband thought I ghosted him since I was unable to contact him while in training, hah!) and nothing has been the same since! After completing my 200-hour training, I started teaching a couple places, but felt that I really wanted and needed to learn more, so a year later I completed my 300-hour and multiple trainings since then. After my 300 hour training, I left my corporate job in oil and gas and have been teaching full time since.
Yoga changed my life in a way that is hard to put into words, but I am forever grateful for my mat and the community that I have found through this practice. It took me a while to gain the courage to build this website and share what I know, but I am confident that this is what I am meant to do. Although there is always more to learn, and I commit to you that I will continue to grow my boundaries and gather knowledge, I enjoy sharing what I do know and have learned with you. With hopes that you, too, will benefit from it in some way.
I aim to provide classes that are influential and transformative for both the body and mind, as we practice together to find balance between strength and flexibility. I instruct from a ‘how-to’ point of view through creative and effective cueing that I have learned through my training, my own practice, and how it actually feels in the body.
Above all, I am here to support and encourage you. Together we will find space and grace to meet our bodies and minds where they are. Prepare to ignite and cultivate strength and knowledge to take with you as you continue your own journey.
